With roof repairs we will first take a full assessment on the roof and take all aspects on the roof in, checking the mortar the tiles and the supports as well. The reason we check the supports is to ensure there are no leaks in the roof. If we find any issues to your roof we will come to you and tell you about them and that we can help as well. After we repair any damages that we can find we will come to you and discuss the issues.

Chimney Repairs

Chimney Repointing

Over time, weathering and decay causes deterioration in the joints between masonry. This allows water penetration which can cause significant damage.

Repointing is the process of renewing the mortar joints between bricks or masonry.

Having damaged joints between your bricks or masonry repointed prevents water penetration and the consequential damage.

Repointing will also enhance the external appearance of the building.

Chimney Stacks

Most chimney damage or decay starts from the top down. The top cement flaunching between you and your neighbour’s chimney pots should be laid in one continuous section without cracks/split. The cement flaunching should be cambered so rainwaters runs off the chimney to the outer edge.

The chimney stack is exposed to the full force of our weather. To withstand such conditions, chimney stacks must be maintained to the highest standard.

When repairs are required they should be made with the correct materials by an experienced contractor using appropriate tools and safety systems.

Our Methods

We ensure we have the correct replacement tile. The most common tile types are concrete and terracotta. We must ensure it is the same type of tile or it may not work and can result in extra damage.
Once we have safely gotten to the broken tile, we need to slightly lift the tiles that overlap the one to be removed. we do this by using two pieces of timber to hold them up. Then, we use a brick trowel to lift up the broken over the baton underneath and slide it down and out.
We then place your new tile onto the brick trowel and reverse the steps for removing the tile. Be sure to place the overlapping tiles back into position.
We ensure the tile is securely in place and is not interfering with any other tiles around it. Unless in a high wind area, the tile won't need to be nailed or wired into place.
Have a quick check across the roof while you're there to survey any other potential damage.

Tiles

Re-pointing tiles is quick and easy to do but can cause further damage if not done correctly.

We will replace any cracked tiles and asses the roof to see if there is any other safety issues. Cracked tiles can be a very sever safety issue as tile in general are heavy and you don't want one a part of one falling on your head.
